Legislation to Consider Disabled Access in Townhomes Runs Aground
Legislation creating a task force to investigate a number of issues related to disabled accessibility is effectivly dead for 2010.
Meeting the same fate as many other measures this year, AB 2516, authored by Jerry Hill, D-South San Francisco, was held in Assembly Appropriations Committee last week over concerns related to the cost to the state. This action came after Hill already had amended the bill to address CBIA’s concerns.
Sponsored by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, AB 2516 would have required the California Department of Housing and Community Development to establish a task force to investigate a number of issues related to disabled accessibility, with a primary focus on multi-storied dwelling units (townhomes).
Appropriations Committee staff estimated a two-year cost of $500,000 needed for HCD to conduct the work required by the bill.
This action effectively kills the bill for 2010.
