Economic Analysis of New School Construction and Modernization Projects Finds Massive Job and Economic Benefits for California

The Center for Strategic Economic Research (CSER) today released an economic impact summary that provided an analysis of the full range of economic stimulus and annual benefits of new school construction and modernization projects.


Amongst its findings, CSER found that the existing $3 billion pipeline of new school construction and modernization work could result annually in more than 15,000 new jobs, $990 million of employee compensation (salaries/wages and benefits), $99.8 million in state and local tax revenue and more than $2.5 billion of overall economic output benefits for California’s economy.

CHF|CIRB Releases June 2014 Housing Statistics

Single-family unit housing starts made a comeback in June, increasing by 26% from May of 2014 and 31% from the same time last year. Multi-family units decreased in month-to-month and year-over-year categories by 16 and 21%. In the end, total units for June accumulated to 7,777 units, a 4% increase over May and 2% increase from June 2013.


Other Highlights from the June 2014 California Construction Review:

  • The dollar volume of residential building totaled $2,293,588,513 in June 2014, up 8.7% from May 2014 and 8.4% from this same time last year.
  • The largest project in June 2014 was a $59.6 million new office building for the "Stadium Tech Center" in Santa Clara City, Santa Clara.
  • California Construction employment averaged 669,900 in June 2014, up 7,100 from May 2014.

CBIA Welcomes Senator David E. Cogdill as New CEO and President

The California Building Industry Association welcomes former Senator David E. Cogdill as its new CEO and President. The CBIA Executive Committee selected Cogdill after a 6-month search to replace current CEO and President Mike Winn. While serving as Chairman of the association in 2010, Winn assumed the day-to-day management of CBIA and will return to his Sacramento land development company in November.

CBIA Applauds Governor Jerry Brown for Keeping Housing Affordable
Yesterday Governor Jerry Brown vetoed AB 1229, a measure that authorized inclusionary housing statewide after months of intense lobbying by the CBIA Government Affairs team. The bill was one of CBIA’s highest priorities this legislative session and the veto prevented hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees from builders and future homebuyers.
