CBIA's Fall Governance Meetings will be here before you know it

This will be CBIA’s pinnacle event of the year and includes the California Homebuilding Foundation Golf Tournament at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West and CBIA’s Annual Leadership Dinner, where we recognize the dedication of CBIA’s leadership team and our legislator(s) of the year.

CHF|CIRB August 2014 Permit Statistics

New housing was low in August for California and throughout the country, mainly due to decreases in multi-family construction, which has been leading new housing construction for most of 2014. However, California employment is showing noticeable improvement, a good indication for future housing construction.


Other Highlights from the August 2014 California Construction Review:

  • Non-residential construction increased by 19% as compared to August 2013.
  • California Construction employment averaged 676,500 in July 2014, up 6,600 from last month.
  • The largest project in August 2014 was a new $15.5 billion shell building with a mezzanine, site work and tenant improvement in Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County.

CBIA Joins Broad Coalition In Support of Legislation to Put School Bond on the Ballot

Officials from the California Building Industry Association today stood shoulder to shoulder with a broad coalition of organizations at a press conference at the State Capitol today to call upon the Legislature to pass and the Governor to sign Assemblymembers Joan Buchanan and Curt Hagman’s legislation to put a state school bond on the November ballot.


The coalition in support of the bill included representatives from the California School Boards Association, the Association for California School Administrators, California Chamber of Commerce, and state legislators from both sides of the aisle.

CBIA Welcomes Senator David E. Cogdill as New CEO and President

The California Building Industry Association welcomes former Senator David E. Cogdill as its new CEO and President. The CBIA Executive Committee selected Cogdill after a 6-month search to replace current CEO and President Mike Winn. While serving as Chairman of the association in 2010, Winn assumed the day-to-day management of CBIA and will return to his Sacramento land development company in November.

CBIA Applauds Governor Jerry Brown for Keeping Housing Affordable
Yesterday Governor Jerry Brown vetoed AB 1229, a measure that authorized inclusionary housing statewide after months of intense lobbying by the CBIA Government Affairs team. The bill was one of CBIA’s highest priorities this legislative session and the veto prevented hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees from builders and future homebuyers.
