Furnaces, air conditioners, duct/air sealing, building insulation, comprehensive measures/whole building.

Amount

  • Minimum incentive: $1.72/therm saved; $0.43/kWh saved; $75/kW saved.
  • Energy Star for Homes: 10 percent bonus for builders who achieve final certification in the Energy Star Program.
  • Green Building Program: 10 percent bonus for homes participating in California Green Builder, Green Point Rated and LEED-H.
  • Compact Home: 15 percent bonus for building homes that are smaller than the CAHP published baseline square footage.
  • kW reduction: Bonus for reduction of peak kW demand through the use of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.
  • Design Team Incentive: 50 percent bonus up to $5,000 for holding a charrette with a builder, architect, and experts in structure, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy consultant and utility energy efficiency representative (available for projects of 10 units or more).

Maximum Incentive

$5.14/therm saved; $1.29/kWh saved; $225/kW saved

Equipment Requirements

Home must be designed to be a minimum of 15 percent better than the 2008 Title 24 Energy Code. Incentive levels increase until performance is 45 percent above code.

Summary

San Diego Gas and Electric encourages homebuilders to construct energy-efficient homes through their Residential New Construction Energy Efficiency Incentive Program. Single-family homes, multi-family homes and multi-family high rises are eligible to participate.

There are two levels of participation in the performance-based program: Tier 1 for buildings which exceed Title 24 compliance by 15 percent for single-family or multi-family new construction; and Tier 2 for buildings which exceed Title 24 compliance by 35 percent to 40 percent in the cooling budget for single-family or multi-family new construction.
